Kim Burns

artist_burns.gif Listen as veteran character actor, Joe Unger takes you on a occasionally dark and often humorous journey through the poetry of our favorite poet, Kim Burns. A real treat for those of us who miss Bukowski!

The Kim Burns Spoken Word CD, narrated by veteran character actor, Joe Unger is finally finished. The 40 track CD is a decidedly intense and entertaining journey through the humorous and occasionally dark mind of critically acclaimed Nashville poet, Kim Burns. The poems are accompanied by the haunting trumpet of Tonight Show band member, Lee Thornburg.

There's also a short film directed by Tank (who co-produced the album) at the end of the CD, which stars Joe Unger and the mysterious K. Bombay. This can be viewed in any CD-rom player.

And now, a little bit about the CD:

How it happened - Grammy award winning producer, Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam, Rosie Flores, Meat Puppets) meets author, Kim Burns backstage at a Dwight Yoakam show in Nashville, TN. Not being a fan of anything out of Nashville, Anderson was surprised when he read the prose of Mr. Burns. Pete liked what he read so much, he then offered to sell Kim's books through his label, Little Dog Records. Over time, everyone at the office became a fan, and one day Pete offered Little Dog Records Special Projects Director, Tank, the opportunity of producing a spoken word compilation of Kim Burn's poem. Both men knew that the job of narrator had to go to Joe Unger, a well-known and well-loved character actor whose deep, commanding drawl is completely unmistakable. The rest is...as they say...on CD and available through Little Dog Records.

Joe Unger - the narrator

Joe Unger was born and raised in Lake Country, Tennessee where the acting bug bit him while he was attending college. After stunning everyone in local theatre groups, Joe traveled to NYC to study acting and came west to Los Angeles in 1976 to pursue his dream. During that pursuit he took on the roles of Private Investigator, dock worker, cab driver, process server, and most notably, beloved bartender at the legendary Hollywood hang, Boardners. All of this "life experience" helped Unger hone his craft as he starred in such movies as "Go Tell The Spartans" (with Burt Lancaster, Joe's first film), Mask, Barfly, The Bodyguard, Road House, Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, and South Of Heaven, West of Hell (with Dwight Yoakam). He has also graced the stage with Ann Archer in From Here to Eternity and with Leah Thompson in Long Time Coming. Joe will soon be seen in the upcoming HBO series, Canivale.

Kim Burns - the author

Kim Burns was born in Illinois and raised in Elkville, KY. A third generation coal miner, Kim's life was changed forever when he first read Kurt Vonnegut's Welcome To The Monkeyhouse. This event inspired him to leave the coal mines behind forever. He attended college, and planned to become a professional baseball player. When that plan did not materialize, Kim then took himself to Nashville, TN., and became a self-described "professional Music Row bum" for the last 20 years.

In Nashville, Kim has seen and done it all, and then turned it into prose. "I've driven trucks, been a courier, and even washed dishes at Maude's . "Cowboys, drunks and Christians, I've seen them all come and go." says Burns. And turned most of them into...poetry. Kim is currently working on a one woman play about the last day in the life of Sylvia Plath.

Tank & Sally Browder - the producers

Tank hails from the land known as Bakersfield, CA which led him to write the song "Hate This Town". A retired Teamster, Tank has done it all, held down a 9-5, raised a family, been a published songwriter, and produced demos for professional songwriters. His most recent accomplishment is his international video directorial debut for the song Cerca De Mi for Triloka Recording Artist, Ziroq.

Sally Browder hails from the northeast part of the United States, and is an accomplished producer, engineer and composer. She has worked with artists from all genres of music, rock to country, too numerous to list. She's even composed music for jellyfish. More can be learned about Sally at her personal website, www.SallyBrowder.com .

For those of you who were lucky enough to see Joe Unger read Kim's poetry at Kulak's, you all know that this is yet another amazing CD from Little Dog Records!
